one school was assigned at random to receive a special 20-session risk\x=req-\ reduction intervention and one school served as a control. At a two-month follow-up, risk factor knowledge scores were significantly greater for students in the treatment group. Compared with controls, a higher proportion of those in the treatment group who were not exercising regularly at baseline reported regular exercise at follow-up. Almost twice as many baseline experimental smokers in the treatment group reported quitting at follow-up, while only 5.6% of baseline experimental smokers in the treatment group graduated to regular smoking compared with 10.3% in the control group. Using electronic health records to predict costs and outcomes in stable coronary artery disease

METHODS The analysis was based on 94 966 patients with stable-CAD in England between 2001 and 20...

Challenges for the management of hypertension in low-resource settings.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) account for one third of the global mortality and one tenth of the global disease burden; however, if rates of hypertension, a cardiovascular risk factor, were controlled, the reduction of the CVD burden would follow. One of the major constraints for controlling hypertension is the limitation of resources for health care, particularly in low- and middle-income coun...

Construct Validity of an Obesity Risk Screening Tool in Two Age Groups

Home environment influences child health, but the impact varies as children move into adolescence. The Family Nutrition and Physical Activity (FNPA) screening tool has been used to evaluate home environments, but studies have not compared the utility of the tool in different age groups. The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of the FNPA tool in first and tenth grade samples. Pare...
